Hey, I'm Melvin
A Product Designer focused on implementing user-centred, data-driven and business-oriented designs. I have been involved in products of various stages, from doing 0 -> 1 work in seed-stage startups to scaling up SAAS companies.
I also wear different hats so often I have my own multi-verse.
#Portfolio of Yesterdays ⌛️
A nostalgic look at my iterations of portfolios and other design works.
THE DESIGNER
A natural problem solver with plenty of ideas to boot.
As a person who’s always cooking up ideas in their head, I love the limitless power of design to realise and envision them.

I can generate solutions so quickly that I’m learning to slow down, zoom out, and ask often ‘what are we really trying to solve?”

I’m unlearning my obsession over quantity and re-learning the charm of prioritising, iterating and moving fast.

Less really can be more. Food excepted.

THE ADVOCATOR
User centric,
People focused.
The core of my design decisions are rooted in the consideration for end-users.

I’m passionate about helping people experience thoughtful designs that are driven by real user problems & research, and less by arbitrary reasonings like ‘personal taste’.

What use is a design when it's neither enjoyable nor beneficial.
THE COLLABORATOR
Team player.
Quite literally.
I’m blessed with the ability to get along well with almost anyone. I foster collaboration, bring people together and rally the team to achieve goals. I take the phrase “I’ve got your back” to the next level.

Truth is, I just happen to work with really nice people too.
THE PROFESSIONAL
Designing,
it’s in my veins.
Armed with a strong design background in Architecture - I’ve spent my formative years doing plenty of highly transferrable skills into my current role. From design thinking, problem solving, user requirements, to arguing working with engineers / developers.

Watch out, I’m also loaded with design jargons.
Cool stuff here!
THE COMMUNICATOR
Mic wielder.
Humour induced.
I enjoy talking and getting people to talk more.

Having regularly run design workshops and events to non-designers before, I strive to communicate ideas simply and gather feedbacks efficiently.

A side effect of dry humour may occur. You can't have it all sadly.
Outside the mouse clicks, I'm also a-
Binge watcher.
Sci-Fi and thriller.
I typically enjoy movies with mind-bending plots, stunning visuals or distinct cinematography. It's no wonder Christopher Nolan's works easily top my list. Also, sweet > salty popcorns.

Indie discoverer.
Groovy & funk.
Constantly on the hunt for a new favourite so I can put it on repeat for a whole week and never touch it again. A sucker for RnB, but I can generally jam to anything with a groovy bassline.

Traveller with
plane phobia.
I've got a strong plane phobia but an even stronger urge to travel. Currently blessed to have experienced 24 countries, and counting. Next stop? A solo trip to Busan (hopefully)
